Terms of use

The rules for using Penvy. What happens to your data is in the privacy policy.
What Penvy is
Penvy turns typed text into handwriting: as an image, a PDF page or a notebook file. It is free. We don't promise that it is always available or keeps every feature, and we may change or discontinue it.
Your account
Your account has a username and a password, nothing else. Don't use your real name or someone else's as your username, and keep your password to yourself. Without an email address we can't reset a forgotten password or give a lost account back; you can always create a new one. You must be at least 16, or at least 13 with your parents' or guardians' permission.
Fair use
Penvy is free within fair limits: every account has a daily limit (a smaller one on its first day, and while an account created without JavaScript isn't unlocked), and without an account you can try a few short texts a day. When Penvy's free server time for the month is nearly used up, it pauses writing for everyone until it's back. Your account, your settings and your handwriting stay as they are. Don't try to get around these limits, for example with many accounts or scripts.
Using Penvy
You are responsible for the texts you convert and for what you do with the results. If your school, university or exam requires work in your own handwriting, following those rules is up to you. Don't use Penvy for anything unlawful, to infringe other people's rights, or in a way that overloads or attacks the service.
Your own handwriting must really be yours: write it yourself, and don't use Penvy to imitate someone else's handwriting or signature.
What you create
The images, pages and notebooks you create are yours to use however you like. The handwriting fonts are licensed under the SIL Open Font License, which allows this. Your handwriting samples stay yours. We use them only to write your texts for you.
Ending
You can delete your account at any time in your account settings, which ends this agreement. An account nobody has used for 2 years is deleted automatically, which ends it too. We may suspend or delete accounts that seriously break these terms.
Liability
Penvy is provided as it is, free of charge. We are fully liable for intent and gross negligence and for injury to life, body or health. Beyond that, our liability is excluded as far as the law allows.
Changes
We may update these terms. The date at the top shows the current version.
